Most of our tours are all-inclusive, however if there is anything not included (usually some meals on a few of our tours) it is clearly stated before booking so there are no nasty surprises!
This means that once you have booked your tour you can be sure of the knowledge that there are no hidden costs once you arrive.mWe are able to cater to vegetarian and gluten free diets, if this is required please inform us at the time of booking so we can make the necessary arrangements.
All activities are included in the price apart from instances where there is more than one option to choose from (ie the Bay of Islands during the Northland Voyager tour). This is designed so that you can customise your tour to suit your preferences and to save money if you wish. Where there is more than one option available, the activities will be outlined in the itinerary and you can make your choices at the time of booking. You are able to choose extra activities during the tour, subject to availability.
Your tour will be accompanied by our wonderful guides, all of our guides are experienced, friendly, knowledgeable locals who provide our legendary Kiwi hospitality, and will go out of their way to ensure you have a truly unforgettable tour.
Alcohol: No alcohol is not included in our tour prices, but you are more than welcome to purchase your own throughout your tour.
We don’t charge a single supplement unless you are travelling alone and request your own room. Instead if you are travelling by yourself we will try to pair you up with someone of the same sex to share a room with, if you are travelling in a couple or a pair you will have a room to share.
We cater to everybody, we get people travelling in couples, in groups with friends and plenty of solo travellers too. Some tours require different levels of fitness, we rate our tours on a scale of 1 - 5 so you know how fit you need to be to enjoy the outdoor experiences we share with you. However aside from that all we ask is that you have a passion for adventure and a willingness to come and explore with us!
We don’t believe in big groups that are crammed into giant buses, instead we take a maximum of 20 people depending on the tour. For some tours we limit the numbers to less than this so everyone can have an incredible experience! We’ve found that groups of up to 20 are still small enough to get out and explore properly and get to know all your fellow travellers, but big enough that there’s a nice vibe and plenty of diversity amongst the group.
We like to travel in luxury! Some days there will be no travelling, on other days we might be trying to leave the cities and get into the wild, requiring us to travel for a few hours at a time. To make it as comfortable as possible we use luxurious Mercedes-Benz Sprinter coaches. These Modern and spacious vehicles provide plenty of room to relax with large windows, curtains, air conditioning and overhead luggage storage.
We cater to a range of different customers, and don't have a set age limit. Some tours and activities will not be suitable for young children, but this is all covered in the booking process!
We love having groups along! A number of our tours are specific to organised groups, however we do offer group discounts off our standard group tour prices, so when you get in touch let us know what size your group is and save up to 20%!
Sole Ventures is an entirely kiwi company, that means that all our guides speak English as a first language, however they are experienced at interacting with customers from all over the world! English doesn’t have to be your first language, but a basic understanding will definitely be helpful so you can understand your guides instructions and the information they give you.
We love to share our experiences with people from all walks of life, you are more than welcome to travel with us if you are alone. Our fun-loving guides will keep you well entertained along with the friends you’ll make amongst your fellow travellers.
We recommend making your bookings as soon as you know you are able to travel, there will be a higher chance that we can cater to you! However we do accept bookings right up until the tour departure.
The fitness level required depends on the tour, if you check the itinerary of the tour you’re interested in, you will see a fitness level between 1-5. During all of our tours you will spend most of your time outdoors, and we do a lot of activities and walking, but the length and difficulty of the activity varies between tours. If you’re not sure don’t hesitate to contact us and we can fill you in with anything you would like to know!
We like to travel in style! That means that our accommodations are comfortable and private, we use chalets, lodges and retreats wherever possible. All rooms have their own bathroom facilities and many also have full kitchens, sometimes there may be up to a maximum four people in a comfortable 2-bedroom apartment/chalet, but it will only ever be with other people from the tour.
We highly recommend that you take out a travel insurance policy that covers you for your activities and belongings whilst you are on holiday. If you do have an injury in New Zealand the Accident Compensation Commission (ACC) may be able to help cover the costs of treatment and support while you’re in the country, but they don’t cover emergency/disrupted travel or illnesses.
Backpacks work but suitcases are perfectly fine too! We find they are easier to pack and can fit more in, but do recommend that you also bring a small day backpack to carry food, water and clothing in for when you’re having fun hiking or out on boats etc.
Because we make it our mission to give you the best experience possible all of our guides are multi-skilled and qualified local Kiwi’s, meaning that they share all the roles while on tour. They will drive you around, cook for you and keep you well entertained with stories and info about the places your visiting. At least one of them will accompany you on your activities unless you are out with one of our partner companies (for example out exploring the Bay of Island by boat), but even then, they usually tag along as they enjoy adventuring just as much as you!
We have multiple different activities to do when the weather is bad, all planned for varying levels or weather. For example, we might do a couple of shorter walks through the forest rather than one long exposed hike, or we may explore on foot rather than by boat and so on. So, no need to worry! Even if you do get a day or two of poor weather there is still plenty of adventure to be had!
After paying for a deposit when you book, the balance isn’t due until 35 days before departure date. If you wish to make multiple payments over time rather than in one lump sum, just let us know and we’ll be happy to sort something out with you.
All of our tours depart from Auckland, and we are lucky enough to have excellent shuttle and bus services to and from the airport that will drop you to your accommodation, or straight to the start of the tour if you fly in the same day, after your stay they can take you from anywhere in the city back to the airport. If you would like a recommendation for what shuttle or bus service to use, don’t hesitate to ask us! Our tours depart and arrive Central Auckland so it is very handy to get to and from the airport, being only a 30-40min shuttle ride.
For a pick-up or drop-off to any address we recommend Super Shuttles:
For a shuttle bus to the city with designated stops we recommend SkyBus:
Most of our tours are all-inclusive so you don't need to have much spending money at all, check the details of your tour to see if there are any meals not included in the price, aside from that you will only need money for extra things that you don't have to buy such as souvenirs etc.
Usually all of your meals are included in the price, if not this will be clearly stated in the tour details before you book. There will be a mixture of continental and cooked breakfasts, most of the time breakfast will be home cooked by your wonderful guides. Lunches depend on the day, sometimes we will have a picnic when we’re busy doing activities and other days we will head out to enjoy a local café or restaurant. A few of your dinners will be home cooked by your guides, but most of the time we like to get out and enjoy the local cuisine! We arrange group dinners at our favourite restaurants, but of course if you wish to head out and have a private dinner by yourselves you’re more than welcome too. We are happy to drop you off and pick you up again whenever we are not within walking distance. We cater to most dietary types, so if you have any requirements just inform us and we will make the necessary arrangements.
Please note that your tour price does not include alcoholic beverages.
In New Zealand electricity is supplied throughout New Zealand at 230/240 volts (50 hertz), an adapter/converter is necessary, unless the item has a multi-voltage option. Please note that power outlets only accept flat three or two-pin plugs.
What you need to bring depends on the time of year and what tour you are doing, if you book on we provide a complete gear list for that particular tour. Everything can easily fit into a standard suitcase and small backpack with room to spare!
